GELANG PATAH: National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s appearance at Forest City’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration sparked a wave of frenzy among fans and visitors.

As soon as he entered the sales gallery, scores of people were seen trailing and crowding around him with their smartphones and cameras to snap photos and videos of the world No 1.

Even Forest City staff were seen following Chong Wei and taking photos of him as he looked around the sales gallery. Dressed in a dark blue sam fu top, Chong Wei sampled some musang king durian mooncake at one of the stalls and lit a lantern made from coconut shells at another.

He also promoted durian to overseas fans in a video recording for a television programme by a China television station.

Housewife Roziah Md Senin, 46, said she was delighted to see the sportsman up close.

“I was so excited that I forgot to whip out my phone and take photos of him,” she said, adding that her whole family was proud of his silver medal in the Rio Olympics.

Korean Shinny Kim, 29, who was in Forest City with her family on holiday, said she joined in the excitement after seeing a lot of people around Lee.
