PENANGITES can now laugh freely without reason and not feel like a mad person at the Penang Laughter Yoga Ho Chiou Club.
Yoga instructor and founder Lolin Lim said laughter yoga is unique because it helps reduce physical, mental, and emotional stress at the same time.
“A research conducted in 2006 on 50 IT professionals in Bangalore found a significant reduction in stress levels as a result of activities in laughter yoga.
“Laughter yoga is a combination of deep breathing exercises from yoga and laughter exercises,” she said when giving her speech at the official launching of the club in Pulau Tikus on Tuesday.
Lim added that Stanford University psychology professor Dr William F. Fry found that 10 minutes of hearty laughter was equivalent to 30 minutes spent on a rowing machine.
She said the Penang Laughter Yoga Ho Chiou Club is in the process of being registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Classes will be available on Tuesdays starting Sept 20 from 8pm to 9pm at KQ Naturopathic Medicare Centre, 37, Lengkok Berjaya, Pulau Tikus.
