The Lions Recycle for Sight is a Lions Clubs International programme designed to help provide spectacles for children and adults in developing countries with vision problems.
The Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara members have been actively collecting old spectacles from families, friends, neighbours, at offices, malls and neighbourhood optical shops.
Spectacles collected will be sent to the Lions District 308B1 before the items are transferred to the regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centres.
These spectacles are cleaned, sorted by prescription strength and packaged for distribution to the poor and needy around the world.
Their sight could be improved with a simple pair of corrective glasses that was not affordable to the underprivileged.
Optical company Pro Eyes Optics Sdn Bhd responded to the club’s appeal for recycled spectacles and donated 600 pairs to the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara, through their outlet – SEEN optical shop in 1Utama.
The organisation is looking forward to more support from corporations, especially from the optical industry.
“We greatly appreciate the generous gesture from Pro Eyes Optics for their support towards this meaningful programme.
“These spectacles will bring a lot of joy to many people in the world. Malaysians, in general, are very generous and kind,” said the project’s organising chairman Lana Low.
