KUCHING: The Muslim community continued to observe Hari Raya Haji with the distribution of meat to the needy.
At the state Education Department headquarters here, meat from seven heads of cattle was distributed to various recipients, including department staff and the Chief Minister’s Department.
Education Department also presented financial contributions to 50 students.
The meat and contributions were handed over to the recipients by Chief Minister’s wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, witnessed by state education director Rakayah Madon and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit.
The ceremony was organised by Surau Ar-Rahman at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in cooperation with Education Department.
At the Tupong PBB branch office in Matang, five cows were slaughtered and the meat distributed to 400 recipients from the Tupong constituency.
Some 40 members of the Tupong PBB women and youth wings took part in a gotong-royong to pack the meat for distribution.
Also participating in the gotong-royong were Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and former assemblyman Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman.
Meanwhile, the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency service centre contributed 25 heads of cattle to the three state seats in the constituency for Hari Raya Haji.
Batang Sadong MP Datuk Nancy Shukri said the cattle had been sent to the respective constituencies since last week.
She said another 30 cows were contributed by the three state assemblymen, government agencies and PBB branches in the area.
“I would like to thank everyone who made contributions for the korban ritual. Government agencies, corporate bodies and individuals who wish to carry out korban activities are encouraged to work together with the state assemblymen and Resident’s Office so that it will go smoothly,” she said.
