FOR the first time in five years, some 35 children of Bandar Tun Razak in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, have a better shot at acing their examinations with a little help from the Bandar Tun Razak Education Foundation.

Through the foundation, students sitting for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) were given free tutoring in several key subjects.

Bandar Tun Razak MCA chairman Datuk Chew Yin Keen said the tuition classes, which were held since January, were aimed at providing a good foundation to the students for lifelong learning.

“The free tuition classes were revived after a five-year hiatus.

“We had to stop because there was no proper venue, but now that the service centre has been set up, the children have a more conducive space to learn,” he said during the closing ceremony.

He added that students were tutored in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mathematics twice a week.

As an added bonus, Chew said the foundation would be rewarding students RM50 for each “A” that they obtain in the examinations.

“We will also be organising a pre-secondary course for those heading to secondary school next year. This is to give them a leg up on the syllabus,” said Chew.
