10 places of interest accessible by LRT

WEEKENDS just got a whole lot more interesting with the Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT line extension, connecting folk all across the Klang Valley.

StarMetro has picked out 10 destinations that are now easier to visit via the LRT.

1. Farm in the City, Seri Kembangan (via Puchong Perdana LRT).

Instead of getting caught in traffic on the Damansara-Puchong Highway, you can now take the train to Puchong Perdana LRT station and a 15-minute cab ride to this petting zoo. Perfect for a family fun time, you can feed the birds, deer, goats and koi fish as well as catch performances by the white cockatoo and parrots. Children can also get to play with fuzzy hamsters and rabbits at the farm.

2. SKY Park at One City (via USJ 21 station)

Daredevils are welcome to take photos from the 10th floor of Sky Park at One City which has a glass floor. If heights give you the jitters, then the open-air garden may distract you, besides the numerous eateries where you can enjoy a meal along with an incredible view of Subang Jaya. Sky Park can be reached by a short walk or a five-minute taxi ride from USJ 21 station. There is feeder bus service provided when One City organises special events.

3. Kopicat Cafe in SS15 (via SS15 station)

SS15 is home to a multitude of quirky cafes and Pokestops. One of the unique ones is Kopicat Cafe where you will be greeted by the most adorable cat hosts while you have your cappuccino.

Open from 11am to midnight, this cafe is walking distance from the SS15 LRT station.

4. Tapak Urban Street Dining (via KLCC station)

Subang Jaya and Shah Alam folk can now take the LRT direct to KLCC. It is just six minutes on foot from the station and you will find food trucks galore at Tapak. Open daily from 6pm onwards, dine under the stars with a plethora of burgers and pasta as well as an assortment of milkshakes.

5. Sunway Lagoon (via Sunway Lagoon BRT station)

With over 35ha of 80 attractions, Sunway Lagoon is a household name for theme park rides and water slides. Avoid the hassle of parking and traffic jam by taking the LRT to USJ 7 interchange station and switch to the BRT to Sunway Lagoon station. Another way to get to the park’s doorstep is by taking the KTM to Setia Jaya interchange station and switching to the BRT.

6. Kelana Jaya Municipal Pool (via Glenmarie LRT station)

Take a 10-minute walk from Glenmarie LRT station to Selangor’s largest swimming pool complex. Equipped with two 50m outdoor pools, lockers and shower facilities, the complex is open daily from 9am to 12pm, 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 9pm.

7. Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve (via Bandar Puteri station)

Hiking enthusiasts in the Klang Valley need not go too far for scenic views and beautiful waterfalls.

Spanning over 1,000ha, this forest reserve is home to glorious natural phenomena with proper trails for novice hikers to try. As parking can be tricky to find in this area, an alternative is to take the LRT and alight at Bandar Puteri LRT station or Taman Perindustrian Puchong LRT station then take an eight-minute taxi ride to the forest reserve.

8. Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket, Giant Hypermarket, Summit USJ and Da:Men malls (via USJ 7 LRT station or South Quay BRT station)

From the Singapore franchise Weiner Hot Dogs to Nam Heong Ipoh, Da:Men mall has interesting restaurants to offer the USJ neighbourhood. Also, a mere five minutes’ walk from the USJ 7 LRT or South Quay BRT stations, all your grocery needs can be resolved at the Mydin and Giant hypermarkets nearby. And having recently undergone refurbishment, Summit USJ has a bowling alley, cinema and many shops for you to browse and indulge.

9. Shah Alam Extreme Park (via Putra Heights LRT station)

Enjoy this multi-sports complex complete with paintball, climbing and bouldering facilities as well as a BMX race course. Rollerblade and skateboard enthusiasts can show off their skills at the concrete bowl park with many street elements. It is 10 minutes by taxi from Putra Heights LRT station.

10. Empire Shopping Gallery, Empire Hotel and Subang Parade (via Subang Jaya LRT station)

Lifestyle-focused upscale mall: Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya has five levels of some 180 retail stores that comprise a mix of local and international F&B outlets, fashion boutiques, as well as health and beauty shops.

Within 500m walking distance from the Subang Jaya LRT station are two shopping centres. For the best deals in gadgets and easy access to a cinema, Subang Parade is the place to be. As for upmarket shopping options and fancy dining, Empire Shopping Gallery has much to offer.
