NURLINA Abd Mutalib’s first attempt at the Queen of KBJ Ratu Kebaya 2016 proved to be a lucky one when she emerged tops during the grand final at Kompleks Bukit Jambul (KBJ) in Penang.
The 27-year-old chemist from Teluk Intan, Perak, said the victory was like a dream come true.
“I did not expect to win the title at all since the other contestants were equally beautiful and smart.
“Also, this is only the first time I’m participating in this contest,” she said recently.
Nurlina, who also won the Most Promising Model title, bagged prizes worth more than RM6,000 including RM3,000 cash.
Finishing second was freelance model Nurul Ain Nasiron, 19.
“Kebaya is one of our cultural attires and it should be appreciated. Without our heritage values, we will lose our identity,” she said.
Nurul Ain, who also won the Miss Popularity and Miss Perfect Smile titles, took home prizes worth more than RM4,000 including RM2,000 cash.
Siti Nadzwa Mohd Noor, who failed to win in last year’s event, went one better when she finished third.
“I prepared myself for this year’s competition and I’m happy it has paid off,” she said.
Siti won more than RM3,000 worth of prizes including RM1,000 cash.
Themed ‘The Mystical Journey of KBJ Ratu Kebaya 2016’, the pageant saw the contestants performing magic shows for the audience and shoppers.
The other three subsidiary titles went to Rafidah Mohamed Koya, 21, (Miss Photogenic), Nor Atika Shahrudin, 31, (Best Talent) and Alyssa Abdul Gafoor, 22, (Miss Body Beautiful).
Present were KBJ joint management body chairman K.H. Chan and vice-chairman Jugal Kishor Shirlal.
