Shah Alam City council launches flag-flying campaign and cycling programme in conjunction with National Day

Some 300 participants in the Kayuhan Santai programme being flagged off at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.

FIFTY vehicles belonging to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) were decorated with the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with its National Day campaign.

The event was held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Section 14, Shah Alam, where MBSA’s four-wheel drive vehicles, compactors, vans and lorries were fitted with the Jalur Gemilang as part of its “Fly the Malaysian Flag” campaign.

The event was launched by Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad.

“We have been encouraging business premises, private and government buildings, shops, schools, kindergartens and residential areas to be decorated with the Jalur Gemilang since Aug 16,” said Zaharin.

The mayor also launched the Kayuhan Santai programme which involved 300 Shah Alam residents and cycling club members cycling on a 30km route from Dataran Kemerdekaan to the SACC Mall in Section 14.

Along the way, the cyclists distributed the Jalur Gemilang at several stops along Sections 4, 7, 19, 20 and 24.

“We hope Shah Alam residents will fly the national flag at their homes.

We would like to remind everyone not to use worn out or torn flags,” said Zaharin.

“We hope that through this programme, we can promote the spirit of love for country among MBSA employees as well as the local community,” he added. — By DIYANA AZIZ
