KUCHING: The honorary wildlife ranger programme may be extended to civil servants to boost its effectiveness in preventing illegal wildlife trade.

State Forest Department director Sapuan Ahmad said honorary wildlife rangers currently comprised community leaders, with more than 2,000 appointed since the early 1990s to help the department curb illegal trade in wildlife.
