CONSTRUCTION of the first shopping mall in rural Balik Pulau in Penang is set to start later this year for completion in 2018.
The mall will be located in Botanica.CT, an integrated township developed by MTT Properties & Development Sdn Bhd some 2km from the Balik Pulau town centre.
MTT Group executive chairman Datuk Dr Kenny Ong said the company would build the mall on a 3.2ha plot and had secured the anchor tenant.
He said the company planned to start construction before the end of the year for completion in late 2018.
“It’s not an extensive mall but rather a mini one which would cater to residents of Botanica.CT and its vicinity,” Ong said at the launching of the second sub-phase of the township’s fifth residential phase Botanica 5C showhouses recently.
He said the company was in talks with other potential tenants.
It was earlier reported that the mall would have a supermarket alongside 80 retail outlets offering a good mix of food and beverage and merchandise.
The township has existing retail shops, including a bakery, a cafe, a coffee shop, a home furnishing outlet and a music school.
Ong said a private hospital was also on the drawing board as part of the plan to complete the integrated township which he touted as the largest development project in Balik Pulau.
Botanica 5C has two categories of residential units namely semi-detached double-storey homes and bungalows priced from RM1,863,000.
