Attractive prizes and fun games for visitors at fest

VISITORS to the 20th Bon Odori Festival tomorrow will standa chance to win 17 attractive prizes in a lucky draw.

All you need to do is spend RM20 on the food coupons to get your hands on the prizes which include a two-way air ticket to Japan, a two-way air ticket to Phuket for two, Sushi King vouchers worth RM200 each and many more.

State Tourism Development Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said visitors have to fill up their particulars on the tickets and drop them at the Malaysian Japanese Society (MJS), Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) or other booths at the event.

“There will be 52 booths featuring an array of Japanese and local food, souvenirs, Yukata, T-shirts, bags as well as games stalls,” he said during a press conference at Komtar on Wednesday.

To be held at the Esplanade in George Town, from 6pm to 11pm, the festival will feature a myriad of performances.

They include the Samurai Maeda Toshiie Ondo Mai, a group of 18 dancers from Nagoya, who will perform the energetic and lively modern Yosakoi dance, the Kasurino-Kai who will perform traditional Japanese folk dance, the Yusuke Ken-Mochi who is a professional Shamisen (Japanese guitar) player and singer, and the Wadaiko Drum Performance by the Penang Japanese School.

There will also be two new mascots — Mikyan, a costumed mascot from the Ehime Prefecture and Rilakkuma (Relax bear) a fictional character by the Japanese company San-X.

Tickets are available at all Sushi King outlets, the Kirishima Restaurant in Cititel Hotel (Penang Road), Ginza Restaurant in Tanjung Tokong and the Penang Japanese Association.
