POULTRY farmers need to consider converting their farms into a closed-farming system, said Penang Agriculture Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin.
“The way forward is to change the traditional farming system to the closed-farming system which is more green, environmentally friendly and safer for consumers.
“With this modern system, odours from the farm will not escape and the drainage will be closed,” he told reporters after visiting and handing over goodies to patients in conjunction with Ramadan at the Penang Hospital recently.
On a related matter, Dr Afif said he met with pig farmers three years ago to tell them that the state was moving towards a closed-farming system and they should include it in their farm expansion plans.
“I’m sure they have the capital to do it and it should not be a problem for them.
“The state will help them with the issue of land title, licensing, building plans and so forth,” he said.
