THE display of beautiful fireworks blazing across the night sky brought the grand opening celebration of The St Regis Langkawi in Langkawi, Kedah, to a spectacular end, much to the delight of dignitaries and other guests who were present.
The opening was graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Tuanku Abdul Halim also led the dignita-ries in lighting up 99 lanterns, which is symbolic of the 99 islands that collectively make up Langkawi.
There was also a laser and light show.
Earlier, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony upon the King and Queen’s arrival at the hotel at about 8.30pm recently.
Rajawali Group chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri Peter Sondakh said taking part in the development of The St Regis Langkawi and the Langkawi International Convention Centre had been an exciting opportunity for Rajawali Group, which has extensive knowledge in developing luxury resorts in its 32-year history.
“We are humbled to have played a small part in showcasing Langkawi’s beauty to the world,” he said.
The resort is owned by Integrated Nautical Resort Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture between Rajawali Group and the Finance Ministry.
Both The St Regis Langkawi and the LICC are the culmination of a successful joint venture between the Malaysian Ministry of Finance, Langkawi Development Authority and Indonesia’s Rajawali Group through Integrated Nautical Resort Sdn Bhd.
The St Regis Langkawi, managed under The St Regis brand, which is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc, marks the brand’s 37th property worldwide and first ever in Malaysia.
