Increased enforcement at sea nets smugglers

GELANG PATAH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) had busted various unlawful activities including cigarette smuggling and illegal fishing following the inspection of some 1,200 local and foreign boats and vessels in the Johor waters so far this year.

Johor Baru enforcement chief Maritime Capt Aminuddin Abd Rashid said that out of the inspections, a total of 12 cases recorded were offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, illegal fishing activities and contraband cigarettes smuggling activities.
