THERE has been a drop in dengue cases reported in Penang in the 16th week of the year from April 17 to 23.
State Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said 14 cases were reported compared to 37 in the previous week from April 10 to 16.
But the cumulative figure of 1,642 dengue cases for this year until April 23 was 19 cases higher than the cumulative figure of 1,623 for the corresponding period last year.
Dr Afif said the number of dengue deaths remained at 10 until April 23 compared to five during the same period last year.
He said in a statement on Wednesday that there was currently only one controlled outbreak area, namely Taman Pelangi Zon A flat in central Seberang Prai.
Dr Afif reminded the public to continue the fight against dengue by constantly checking their homes and surrounding areas to identify and destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
