SIBU: The Sarawak Zhang Clan Association is showing its support to Sibu Municipal Council chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King as the Barisan Nasional candidate for Dudong seat in the coming state election.
At the association’s 30th anniversary celebration, the organising chairman of the event and association’s chairman gave their full backing to Thai King to be picked as the candidate.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem had on March 18 said Dudong seat together with Bawang Assan would be contested by Barisan Nasional direct candidate.
On Friday Adenan said he would only named the candidates before the Nomination Day.
Association’s chairman Tiong Kiong King said Thai King who is UPP Dudong branch chairman and former Lanang MP for four terms, was the right person to stand as candidate.
“As chairman of SMC, Thai King is well versed with the development of the town.
He has in his capacity as SMC chairman made vast changes to the town and he knows what are still needed for the town,” he added.
Kiong King said Thai King was also very concern with the progress of the town.
“I hope members of the association would be united to support his candidacy,” he added.
Organising chairman of the celebration, Tiong Chong King was a committed and approachable person. Chong King also called on members of the association to support Thai King so as he could continue to serve the people.
In the last state election, Thai King lost to DAP Yap Hoi Liong by 317 votes in a three-cornered fight. He also subsequently lost to DAP Alice Lau in the 2013 general election.
Thai King in his speech urged the people including the Chinese community to support the Chief Minister and his team in the election.
