SOMEONE is going to be a part of the much-anticipated 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro.
Right now, that someone could be you.
Visa, Maybank and Petronas is offering customers the chance to head to Brazil to experience the closing ceremony of the year’s most anticipated sporting event in its “Rio 2016 Olympic Games Spend and Win Campaign”.
The grand prize is an all-expense paid four-night trip for two that will include flight, accommodation as well as planned activities valued up to about RM100,000.

Petronas Dagangan Bhd head of retail business Shaharuddin Muhammad Sidek said this followed the success of the company’s similar campaign last year that saw them giving away a luxury vehicle presented by F1 star Nico Rosberg.
This year, he said, the partnership with Visa and Maybank aimed to keep the same momentum, if not higher.
“Olympics comes once every four years so this is a chance of a lifetime not to be missed, in which the winner gets to go where the real action is,” said Shaharuddin.
On top of that, he said the campaign will also be giving away weekly prizes of 10 Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge devices as well as 120 Petronas Mesra points worth RM200 each.
Explaining the mechanics of the participation, Shaharuddin said it was as simple as swiping a card, with no entry forms necessary.
Every minimum RM50 spending with a Visa card at any of the 1,000 Petronas stations and 760 Mesra outlets entitles customer to one entry.
The added use of a Mesra card on top of the Visa gives customers five times the entries.
On top of that, a Petronas Maybank Visa card coupled with the Mesra card will enable 10 automatic entries.
“Last year, Petronas’ spend and win campaign garnered 3.9 million entries. Due to the exclusivity of this year’s event, we expect a higher turnout.
Visa country manager for Malaysia Ng Kong Boon said they were pleased to work with strategic partners.
“We are committed to working with our clients and merchant partners to reward our cardholders when they make cashless transactions as we believe increased usage of electronic payments will help drive Malaysia in becoming a cashless society,” he said.
The campaign, which ends on June 1, is giving away close to RM500,000 in total worth of prizes.
