SIBU: Almost all of the 600 policemen here will be involved in the coming state election.

District police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi said the police would also be assisted by another 300 personnel from throughout the country.

“Bukit Aman will send another 300 here to look after the proper running of the state election,” he told reporters after a parade in conjunction with this year’s Police Day celebration yesterday.

ACP Kamal added that he had requested for facilities for the personnel to conduct their work during the election.

“In terms of finance, there should be no difficulty as the relevant authorities will look into it,” he said.

Separately, he said, 77 people had been arrested in 71 raids conducted during the two-week operation code named Ops Tipas against drug possession.

Police seized 35.2gm of syabu, 5.88gm ganja, 321 ecstasy pills, 2.60gm ecstasy powder, and 40 Eramin-5 pills.

Most of the raids were conducted at budget hotels and entertainment outlets.

At the ceremony, ACP Kamal presented certificates of appreciation to five officers and 20 personnel of other ranks.
