MIRI: It will be a heavyweight fight for the Piasau seat in the state election as Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting is expected to take on state DAP secretary Alan Ling, who is the incumbent assemblyman.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem yesterday named Ting as the SUPP candidate to contest under the Barisan Nasional ticket in Piasau.

Ling won Piasau five years ago by defeating then SUPP president Tan Seri Dr George Chan by about 2,000 votes.

Yesterday, Adenan in his capacity as state BN chief, chaired several meetings with the SUPP and voters to discuss the latest issues.

Adenan had held discussions with various component parties for the Mulu, Lambir, Bekenu, Piasau, Pujut and Senadin state seats.

He said Ting would be fielded in Pujut and SUPP vice president Datuk Lee Kim Shin would defend Senadin.

“SUPP will contest under BN in Pujut, Piasau and Senadin. I have called on all bumiputra voters to give their support to SUPP,” he said.

“Bumi voters make up 30% to 50% of voters in Miri so their votes are crucial for a BN victory. I want to win back our lost seats of Piasau and Pujut.”

Adenan said he had called on all BN component parties to help each other in every constituency.
