RED Bull Energy Drink (Product Of Europe) unveiled a limited edition design for its iconic blue and silver cans at Ruyi & Lyn in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The first limited edition Malaysian can, which depicts the celebrated and emblematic wau bulan (Malaysian kite) was designed by street artist Fritilldea and will be at selected stores from April and nationwide in May.
A homage to Malaysia’s journey and achievements in this current age, the unveiling of the new Red Bull limited edition can will kick-start a series of initiatives to give Malaysians wings to express and share their journeys through art.
Depicting Fritilldea’s intricately designed wau with a modern twist, Red Bull’s limited edition can does not compromise on the age-old wau-making symbolism and provenance.
The traditional wau bulan is the epitome of the highest level of aesthetics, creativity and workmanship. Each with unique floral motifs, the wau bulan tells the story of the maker’s emotions, journey and achievements.
Fritilldea, whose iconic illustrations have been experienced by all strata of Malaysian society, hopes the wau will reignite interest in traditional art forms and inspire the art scenes in Malaysia.
“In recognition of our country’s rich artistic heritage, I have designed a modern interpretation of the Wau Bulan, that I hope will trigger in some, a dormant appreciation for the tradition arts and the inspiration which it stands for,” said Fritilldea.
An avid supporter of people and culture around the world, Red Bull’s first Malaysian limited edition can heralds the brand’s endeavours in cultivating street and contemporary art scenes and its talent, following more established Red Bull’s global art initiatives such as the Red Bull Art of Can and Red Bull Doodle Art.
The Malaysian limited edition Red Bull will serve as a call of encouragement to creative Malaysians everywhere to share their creativity, and re-encapsulate their journeys through all forms of art.
