HALF of Petaling Jaya’s sitting city councillors turned up to show support for two of their colleagues who were sworn into office by mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain in his chambers.
Sugumaran R. Annamalai, a PKR nominee, who previously oversaw PJ Sections 51, 51A and 14 was reappointed to the same zone by the state government.
Meanwhile, freshman councillor Lee Soong Yee, nominated by DAP, would be in charge of SS4, PJU 1 and SS25 areas.
Azizi also gave some advice to both the councillors during the short ceremony.
“I hope they will both do their best, and be an efficient facilitator between their ratepayers and the city council,” said Azizi.
Both would be assigned to council master and sub-committees soon, he added.
The councillors would then be able to forward their residents’ concerns and needs in the following meetings.
Sugumaran, whose first term ran from 2015 to 2016, thanked the state government for supporting his nomination.
“Since it’s the same zone, I’m quite familiar with the issues in the different sections, primarily issues like waste management and also overgrown trees,” said Sugumaran.
“Additionally, I will be assisted by the previous councillor Chan Kien Fatt, who is already well-versed with the problems in each area, so at least there is a continuity,” said Lee.
With the appointment of both Sugumaran and Lee, all 24 seats on the Petaling Jaya City Council have been filled up, said Azizi.
