Abuzz with festive fervour

AS the annual Thaipusam celebrations began in earnest, workers and traders were working well into the wee hours of the morning to put the finishing touches to their thaneer panthals (refreshment stalls) and stalls.

Several roads in Penang – Jalan Utama, Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Waterfall – saw polystyrene cutouts, young coconut leaves and statues being brought in by the lorryloads to decorate the tents.
