Fortune cookies, anyone?

THIS Lunar New Year, shoppers at Sunshine Square in Penang can snap up fortune cookies to serve guests visiting their homes.

Sunshine Wholesale Mart Sdn Bhd general manager Yee Kam Ming said hosts and guests could bond and interact with each other as they find the hidden messages in the cookies.

He also said the current trend among the young generation was to buy gifts for the relatives or friends whom they visit.

“The young now prefer to present imported European beers such as Franziskaner, Erdinger, Hoegaarden and Magners to their friends and relatives.

“This is why we have special beer gift packs this year at our store,” he said when interviewed at Sunshine Square Bayan Baru recently.

He added that canned drink manufacturers such as Coca-Cola and Jia Duo Bao were promoting their special Chinese New Year gift packs.

“For example, if you purchase a carton of Coca-Cola, you will be eligible for a can with your name specially engraved on it,” he said.

Yee also said the bestsellers at the store were expected to be the One Bite Almond Cookies by the October Fifth Bakery Macau and the king-sized cans of Queen Bell lychees by Chang Awards (1959) Limited.

“We have only a limited number of cans. The Thai lychees are of good quality,” he said, adding that the mall’s Chinese New Year Sale would be on until Feb 14.
