“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family,” said former United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan.
Heeding these words, the UOA Group decided to sponsor 500 subscriptions of The Star ePaper to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman’s (Utar) Kampar and Sungai Long campuses as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The sponsorship will see 500 students from both campuses receiving a free The Star e-Paper subscription.
UOA Group property director Cecelia Chan presented a mock cheque to Star Media Group Bhd (formerly known as Star Publications (M) Bhd) Sunday Star editor Esther Ng at their headquarters.
Chan said UOA was happy to contribute to the initiative as it would provide a convenient and beneficial educational resource for Utar students to access information and to increase their general knowledge.
“We believe in the importance of knowledge and educational tools such as The Star ePaper news platform due to its potential of helping to elevate students’ performances in their studies.
“By sponsoring these university students, it is our sincere hope that they will take the opportunity to strengthen their command of the English language.
“This is because English is an essential tool for work, especially when one chooses to pursue a career in a corporate environment,” she explained.
Subscribers of The Star ePaper will have full access to the digital replica of The Star as well as four other regional papers – China Daily Asia Weekly, The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer.
