Justice Datuk Mohd Sofian Abdul Razak sentenced Seeni Mohamed Syed Naina, 27, to 15 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the rotan after amending the charge from 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act to Section 12(2) for possession.
According to the facts of the case, Seeni was found trafficking 1.3kg of methamphetamine at the Senai International Airport at 3.45pm on Oct 21, 2013.
Counsel Bernard George George Mathews represented the accused while Customs prosecutor Hazril Harun prosecuted.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman was nabbed twice by the police for operating an entertainment centre without a valid licence during two separate raids here.
Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Samad Salleh said that the woman was first caught during a raid on the business premise at about 1am on Dec 4.
"Despite a stern warning, the woman decided to continue operating the illegal entertainment centre.
"We conducted another raid on the premises and the woman was arrested again around 2.30am on Dec 11," he told reporters during a press conference at the Seri Alam police district headquarters.
"A total of seven men and three women tested positive for drugs," he said adding that the individuals were being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
ACP Abdul Samad also said a total of 112 individuals involved in illegal online gambling activities were nabbed in a separate series of raids around the Seri Alam area here.
He said that 11 workers and 101 gamblers, aged between 19 and 63, were caught during the operations conducted between Dec 1 and 12.
"We also managed to seized over RM8,509 in cash along with 246 laptops and four tablets" he said, adding they were being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
