SIBU: St John Anglican Church here is appealing to those responsible to help restore the damages done on its metal fencing, concrete wall and graveyard during a road accident on Nov 23.
Archdeacon Reverend Jamal Senada said he hoped that during this season of Advent, family members – including relatives or friends of the driver of the Porsche – would show their kindness, love and concern and donate money to rebuild the items.
In the 6.20pm incident at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, a Porsche driven by a 26-year-man had rammed into a motorcycle ridden by 50-year-old Ting Yew Kui.
Ting and his bike hit the fence and landed on the graveyard of the church, causing damage to the fence and four tombs which belong to the Mowe family.
“At this time of the Advent season, it is most appropriate that a good gesture of sympathy and love be extended as we prepare and look forward to Yuletide, the coming of Jesus Christ in giving and sharing with us the love of God to man- kind,” he told reporters last week.
“And giving is the nature of God. We therefore, should reciprocate God’s nature by giving in return. In view of this we have requested for kind help and appeal to the person/persons responsible for the damage done to our church property.”
Rev Jamal said with Christmas coming, they could not do much to decorate and beautify the church compound unless the damage to the concrete wall and metal fencing was rebuild.
They also feared that with the damaged fence, there was the possibility of a break-in.
Rev Jamal hopes the party responsible for the damages will call him at 019-4687240 or Patricia Mowe at 016-8660795.
