CHINESE-speaking viewers can now shop in the comfort of their homes with the launch of the 24-hour Mandarin edition of Astro Go Shop Channel 318.

The shopping service is operated by Astro GS Shop Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture between Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and GS Home Shopping Inc.

The new channel follows the success of Go Shop’s Malay-language channel and the English-language online and mobile platforms.

Since the launch of Go Shop last November, the multi-platform shopping network has made RM75mil up to July this year with 500,000 products sold.

Speaking at a press conference held at Bangsar Shopping Centre, Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Rohana Rozhan said online shopping was an extension of its content.

“The media can help set the trend for products and services. More Chinese consumers favour shopping online. We think this is a new market and the existing platforms are there to make it happen,” she said.

Channel 318 can be viewed on Astro, NJOI and Astro On The Go as well as various electronic platforms.

Thirty-two products were featured during the launch and the number is expected to reach 1,000 by the end of the year.

The channel will also feature Korean products as well as goods sourced internationally, some of which are exclusive to Go Shop.

GS Home Shopping Inc senior vice-president Sung-Goo Cho said they were committed to developing a conducive shopping experience for Malaysians,

“Our focus has always been on creating a shopping environment that is exciting, convenient and accessible.

“We hope that Malaysians can benefit from our continuous search for quality products,” he said.

Channel 318 Go Shop has assembled an impressive list of TV and radio personalities as hosts including newly-appointed ambassadors Gan Mei Yan, 31 and Jason Phang, 36.

The radio announcers said they wanted to share their love of shopping with listeners.

“I am excited to be the ambassador of the new channel. I am the type of person who loves to try new things and promote what I like to my family members as well as listeners,” said self-confessed shopaholic Gan.

Phang also loves to shop, something he shares with his mother.

“Before Channel 318 was officially launched, my mother was already eyeing the cooking pot and asked me to find out the price.

“I like that I can shop from home. I can even skip reading the manual because of the product demonstrations,” said Phang, who is a fan of Korean skincare.
