RACE along a 24km corridor of Penang island as a team, perform tasks, get clues and complete all 10 stations in Rapid Penang’s Rapid Ride Fun Race this Sept 19 to stand a chance to win up to RM2,000.
Rapid Penang group communications and strategic marketing head Rafidah Abdul Karim said the event was similar to an explore race of four people in a team.
“There are two categories — one for Rapid Penang staff and the other for the public. Each category is limited to 20 teams.
“Teams would have to go to each station to perform the required tasks and will be given clues or direction to the next destination,” she said yesterday.
Rafidah said the winning teams would be chosen based on how they manage their time and complete the tasks accurately at each station.
“The lowest time taken to complete each task accurately at all the 10 stations would be one of the criteria.
“Teams are encouraged to use Rapid Penang buses as a mode of transport to all the stations. Alternatively, they can also travel by foot,” she said.
Rafidah said contestants would be given a special pass which allows them to ride the Rapid Penang buses for free during the event.
“We want the participants to have a wonderful experience riding the bus while taking part in the race. Each team is also encouraged to bring along a smartphone (with data), rain ponchos, loose change, a notebook and a pen,” she added.
The race will start at 7am at the Straits Quay Retail Marina in Tanjung Tokong on Sept 19 and end at 3pm at the same venue.
The distance of the race is about 24km, from Tanjung Bungah on the northern coast of the island to Bayan Baru in the south.
Rafidah said the route resembles the number ‘8’ to mark Rapid Penang’s 8th anniversary.
The entrance fee is RM200 for each team. The top three teams will take home RM2,000, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively.
Forms could be obtained from the Rapid Penang Facebook page and must be submitted to the Rapid Penang headquarters in Lorong Kulit or any Rapid Penang information kiosk before 5pm on Sept 17.
