Land of quit rent defaulters seized

THE Pengkalan Hulu Land Office has seized 23 lots of land from owners at Northgate, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, for failing to pay their quit rent.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said some of the plots that were seized were put under the management of the Pengkalan Hulu district council.

“Part of the land has been turned into a loading area for fruits and products.

“The loading charges have been in effect since April 1 this year for transportation companies unloading fruits and other items near the Pengkalan Hulu-Betong border,” he said at the state assembly sitting on Tuesday.

“We have collected about RM8,111 from the charges between April and June,” he said, adding that there had been proposals for the area to be reserved as a land port for Pengkalan Hulu.
