THE tallest girl in the house walked away with the coveted Miss Malaysia Earth 2015 crown during the finals held at the Syeun Hotel in Ipoh last Sunday.
Standing at 182cm, Danielle Wong Kar Wai of Malacca beat 23 other finalists for the chance to represent Malaysia in the Miss Earth pageant to be held in Vienna, Austria, later this year.
The 22-year-old business administration student said the win had been unexpected.
“But I am overjoyed as it means getting one step closer to fulfilling my dreams of becoming a supermodel,” said Wong, who in May had also represented Malaysia in the Supermodel International 2015 modelling contest, in which she won the Best National Costume subsidiary title.
On her win as this year’s Miss Malaysia Earth, Wong hopes to influence more Malaysians to take heed of the environment.
“I think one of the more pressing issues that we face in this country is the problem of illegal dumping.
“People are still throwing their rubbish indiscriminately and many do not segregate or recycle their rubbish because they feel it is troublesome,” she said, adding that it would be one of her campaigns.
First runner-up Amreet Kaur was crowned Miss Malaysia Earth-Air 2015 while second runner-up Emily Chung Yee Yen was Miss Malaysia Earth-Water 2015.
