KUCHING: A talk to help people to care for children will be help on Aug 23 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) auditorium.

Organised by Society of Critically Sick Children (SOS Kids), the talk will touch on topics like indication of snoring in children, what to do when a child is choking and what to look out for when a child is ill.

The health precaution talk is encouraged for parents with young children.

Parents with sick children will benefit from the talk and they can also connect with SOS Kids to know more about helping critically ill children to recover.

The talk, from 2pm to 4.30pm, will be conducted by Sarawak General Hospital consultant paediatricians Dr Ooi Mong How and Dr Chor Yek Kee and St John Ambulance first aid team.

SOS Kids is a non-governmental organisation which helps critically sick children towards the road to recovery and creating awareness on children health. The care of children who survive critical illnesses is costly and stressful. SOS Kids strives to provide financial assistance and moral support or counselling, especially to the underprivileged children.

The talk will be conducted in English and Mandarin. Entrance fee is RM5 and it is a first-come-first-serve basis. Tickets can also be purchased at Soon Onn Furniture Trading Sdn Bhd, Guan Ho Leong Optical Shops, Kaisu (M) Sdn Bhd, Faith Pharmacy and Ai Pharmacy.

All proceeds will go to SOS Kids to continue helping recovering children with critical illnesses.

MBKS mayor James Chan said this initiative was worth exploring as it would help needy children in the society.

“As mayor, I give them my full support and I applaud them for their effort in extending hands to make this city good and charitable,” said Chan during a visitation by SOS Kids committee members at his office on Friday.

SOS Kids also supports research projects in paediatric critical care medicines and enhancing expertise of medical staffs and social workers.
