MENTRI Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir hopes the newly appointed Ipoh mayor will do his best to transform the city council, just like how he had brought changes to the Manjung Municipal Council.

He said Datuk Zamri Man was formerly the president of the municipal council (Manjung) and had transformed it into one of the best local councils in the country.

Dr Zambry said he was confident that the mayor would give his best to ensure that implementation of projects would be carried out promptly.

He wished to someday see Ipoh as the best city in the country, despite certain people stating that it was an impossible task.

“I also wish to see that actions are taken almost immediately on complaints lodged with the city council, without any delay. There is a need to take care of the image of the city, because if the city is dirty, then the image of Perak is also affected.

“We do not want to be labelled as a city without a proper system, because ideally we want to see changes and development,” he said at a press conference after the swearing-in-ceremony of Zamri on Friday.

Earlier in his speech, Dr Zambry said the basics such as rubbish collection, cleaning of drains, repairs of street lighting, planting of trees, and maintenance of roads must never be neglected.

He said it did not matter whether the constituency was the stronghold of Barisan Nasional or the Opposition, but services must be provided for the people.

“For example, if there are potholes in areas of the Opposition, we must not think that only those from the Opposition may get hurt, because those from Barisan and the rest of the people may also be affected.

“As such, such matters must not be taken lightly as we need to progress, and basic necessities must be on par,” he added.
