RM50,000 available for community-based activities in Bukit Gasing

BUKIT Gasing residents will have more community-based programmes catered for their welfare with the launch of the Community Activity Grant (CAG).

The grant is for activities that focused on better inter and intra community relationships and cooperation, community health, wellness and empowerment.

Special preference would be given for projects on environment, improving public spaces, sports events and those which encourage participation of a significant number of the community.

Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran said the initiative welcomed resident groups, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and students to apply for funds for programmes planned for the last quarter of the year.

Speaking at the launch of the CAG at his office in Petaling Jaya, Rajiv said the grant was from his state allocation, adding that a total RM50,000 had been allocated to fund projects for this year.

The maximum allocation per project for the year was RM10,000, he said, adding that interested applicants have until Sept 15 to send in their applications for projects to be implemented between October and December.

“Not all applications regardless of total cost of the project will receive the maximum allocation. It will depend on the proposal,” said Rajiv, adding that they were scheduled to announce successful applicants later in September.

“The applicant does not have to be a resident of Bukit Gasing,” said Rajiv, adding that there were many NGOs which may not be based in Bukit Gasing but run programmes in the area.

Areas under the Bukit Gasing jurisdiction included Section 1, Section 5 to Section 13, parts of Section 14 including Jalan 14/1 to Jalan 14/28, Section 16 to 18 and Section 52 in Petaling Jaya.

Rajiv also said that CAG would not fund activities with political undertones, scholarships, publicity, marketing programmes and profit-oriented activities, among others.

If successful, Rajiv hoped to continue the CAG next year, adding that necessary adjustments would be made to it based on feedback.

Interested applicants can download the softcopy of the forms on rajiv4malaysia’s Facebook page, by emailing or by visiting his office at 84A (first floor) Jalan Othman 1/14, Petaling Jaya to collect and submit the forms.
