SIGI’S Bar and Grill elevates a classic Western staple with gourmet touches and inventive twists in its limited time Burger Mania promotional menu.
The selection of six buns features international flavours and complements the regular a la carte offerings at Golden Sands Resort Penang’s idyllic waterfront eatery.
It is available from 11am to 6.30pm daily. Its undoubted star is the Durian Cheese Chicken Burger — a unique creation highlighting one of Malaysia’s most iconic fruits.
According to the hotel’s executive chef Adrian Lim, fresh durians are cooked into a savoury custard before being blended with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
This divine condiment is then melted atop a grilled chicken patty sitting between soft sesame seed buns alongside some ma-yonnaise, tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce.
Durian lovers will find bliss with every bite, as the exotic flavour profile strikes an ideal balance of sweetness, pungency and savouriness that leaves the taste buds tingling.
Those who do not fancy the thorny king of fruits might just find themselves converted, as its taste is also mild enough that it does not overpower everything else.
“We wanted to introduce something novel and innovative that has a touch of Penang.
“Poultry goes well with fruits, and since durians are in season, we decided to make it the star.
“Due to its strong flavour, it took us a bit of experimenting to get the taste just right,” Lim said of the dish’s origins.
Another seasonal burger on the menu is the Lamb Kofta Classic, a play on the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean delicacy.
A favourite with tourists from those regions that flock here this time of year, the burger is topped with diced onions, ful mudammas (cooked fava beans) and tomatoes.
“We make all our buns and meat patties in-house. This ensures diners get a fluffy and well-toasted bun, with a succulent chunk of meat that is free of artificial additives in between,” Lim added.
Other options on the menu include the Chicken Cajun Delight with a spiced poultry breast alongside tomato sauce, garlic aioli and cheese. Seafood lovers should try the Big Wave Fish Burger, which pairs a battered fillet with coleslaw and tartar sauce.
The Charcoal Bread Burger holds a juicy beef patty that goes nicely with cornichon (pickle), cheese, garlic aioli, smoked barbecue sauce and ketchup, while the Egg and Cheese Burger represents a meatless option.
The burgers priced from RM30 nett to RM58 nett are served with either French fries or Nachos chips.
Lim said the Burger Mania promotion started last month, and is slated to run until the end of next month.
“If the demand is great enough, we might extend it further and introduce other bur-gers that incorporate what’s in season then,” he noted.
The resort’s director of communications Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman said bur-gers, together with pastas and pizzas, have long been signature items of Sigi’s, which sits along the fringe of the famous Batu Ferringhi beach.
“Every now and then we try to spice up the menu with something different and adventurous,” he added.
