Right out of cookbooks Celebrity chefs show their expertise at book fest cookout

IT WAS an enlightening afternoon for cooking enthusiasts at Bon Appetit@Cook-Out Day as notable chefs demonstrated their favourite quick, easy and healthy recipes in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Held as an annual event at Popular BookFest@Malaysia since 2010, the Cook-Out Day was organised in a marathon style at both the English and Chinese pavilions, featuring celebrity chefs from both the local and international culinary scene.

Chef Debbie Teoh, also known as Queen of Nyonya Cuisine, said homecooked food was a healthier choice and easy to cook when one sticks to the recipe.

“Everyone thinks cooking at home is troublesome but when you break down the cooking process, it doesn’t seem that hard after all,” said Teoh.

Some of Teoh’s famous cookbooks includes Penang Food guide and cookbook and Nyonya Flavours published by Star Media Group Bhd (formerly known as Star Publication Bhd).

As one of the BookFest’s Top 10 Highlights, the event served as a platform for visitors to learn some of the best recipes from the crème de la crème of cooking maestros.

Visitors also stood a chance to taste the food prepared by the chefs as well as to buy their cookbooks and get their autographs.

Among the notable chefs who made appearances at this year’s Cook-Out Day were Masterchef Malaysia Brian Chen, Malaysian Meals in 30 Minutes author Sara Khong, Malaysia’s Best Indian Cuisine of International Gourmand Cookbook Awards 2014 winner chef Sapna Anand and Nyonya cooking maestro and celebrity chef Ricky Ng.

BookFest@Malaysia is organised by Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd since 2006 to create awareness and inculcate good reading habits among the locals.
