UNIVERSITI Malaya alumni from the batch of 1980 to 1982 are invited to a reunion on Aug 15.
Starting from 6.30pm onwards, there will be events ranging from dancing and singing to lucky draws for all present.
For the fourth time since 2012, the organising committee has also planned to invite former lecturers to the gathering.
“This time it will be different and I believe more meaningful than previous ones,” said event project coordinator Foo Kok Teng.
He added that there would be people from different faculties coming together at the reunion and that this would be the last one before the grand one in 2018, when the alumni turn 60.
During the event, there will also be a “Then and Now” (Dulu dan Kini) contest, where those present would be judged based on who had changed the most and who remained the same.
“We also decided to invite the alumni from the 1980s because we received calls from them requesting we include them,” Foo said.
The event will be held at the newly opened Persatuan Alumni Universiti Malaya (PAUM) Clubhouse located near the university’s Damansara entrance.
“This clubhouse has been in our plans for the past 10 years and now that it is ready, we hope to get more alumni registering as members here,” said PAUM president Datuk Noordin Abd Razak.
He added that there were more than 200,000 alumni since 1950 but the association had only about 1,000 members.
“We need at least 5,000 members to help sustain this clubhouse, which has many facilities,” he said.
Apart from the hall, there are tennis courts, multimedia labs, swimming pool, a gym and coffee house.
Joining him was deputy president Hamzah Sidang Mohamad, who hoped the clubhouse would be a major meeting point in future.
“This has been a satisfactory journey and so far, not many people know about this clubhouse yet, but I hope more will,” he said.
He added that food catering for events was also taken care of as they had Eden Catering under their wing.
