Runway success for Sabahan girl

AFTER four months of searching, depilatory brand Veet has found the winner of its first Veet Mega Model Search 2015.

Grand-prize winner Rowena Lau Siew Lin, 24, bagged prizes worth more than RM20,000.

“Ever since I was young, I thought of walking the runways but I was a shy girl. It’s a surreal feeling to know that I won – I’m so happy that I am finally one step closer to my dream.

“I have learned so much from the workshop held for the finalists, from grooming and makeup to body posture, posing, catwalk and photo shoots. Amber Chia is my role model and I hope to be as good as her one day,” said Lau, who is from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Nurul Faizura Gamal Abdul Nasser, 21, took home the first runner-up title while Andrea Tan Wan Ying, 22, was second runner-up.

Winners of the subsidiary titles were Crystal Tung Lu Yie, 20, who bagged the Most Photogenic Model title while Emy Farrah Elena Mohd Johari, 20, was picked Most Confident Model.

In March, the company kicked off its model search, which was open to Malaysian women aged between 18 and 26 years old, who dreamed of becoming the next face in the modelling industry.

“The essence of Veet is to allow women to feel confident in their own skin. With the competition, we want to provide young girls a platform where they could express their confidence and potentially be the next big name in the modelling industry. We are also looking for the girl who perfectly portrays Veet’s brand personality – one who epitomises femininity, combined with a good dose of confidence and style,” said RB Malaysia & Singapore marketing director Matias Caride

The top 10 finalists were shortlisted from 800 hopefuls with the help of Amber Chia Academy, based on the contestants’ auditions as well as online votes.

In preparation for the grand finale, the finalists went through a two-day workshop and makeover session, which equipped them with the essential skills they needed to command the runway.

Prizes for the winner included an opportunity to be featured in a magazine with actress and face of Veet, Izara Aishah, and supermodel Chia; RM8,500 worth of modelling courses at the Academy; RM10,000 cash and RM1,000 worth of Reckitt Benckiser products.

The finalists also have a chance to be selected for direct entry into the audition for Malaysia Supermodel Search 2015.

The judging panel was made up of Caride, Veet Malaysia & Singapore marketing manager Karin Chan, Izara, Chia and the academy’s catwalk guru Benjamin Toong.
