KUCHING: It was a joyous celebration at the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) yesterday as Sarawak celebrated its independence from the British colonial rule on July 22, 1963.

With the sun shining brightly overhead, the state Cabinet members and invited guests sat under canopies overlooking the Sarawak River as the official ceremony to commemorate the state’s independence day got under way.
