Staff from Concorde Hotel, Saloma Theatre Restaurant and Saji magazine spent last Wednesday afternoon distributing 4,000 containers of bubur lambuk and bubur Arab to motorists in Jalan Ampang.
During the holy month of Ramadan, individuals and corporations are usually seen extending support to those in need.
In the spirit of caring and sharing, Concorde and Saloma took the initiative to collaborate with Saji magazine for this project.
As traffic along Jalan Ampang slowed to a standstill at 4.30pm,the team led by Saloma Bistro chairman Datuk Seri Dr Victor Wee and Concorde and Saloma Bistro director Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir, Saloma Bistro director Datin Fatin Fatiha along with Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur general manager Gary Lee started distributing to motorists.
Representatives from other sponsors and local celebrities took part in distributing goodie bags to road users including passengers on public buses.
Saloma’s manager, Zahari Zainuddin said, “This exercise is part of our group’s ‘Care & Share’ service culture programme where staff are encouraged to help out and get involved in gotong-royong projects.
“Those who are stuck in traffic jam or are unable to be home in time for breaking of fast can have something from our goodie bag,” he added.
Each bag handed out consists of bubur lambuk or bubur Arab, mineral water, dates and Julie’s biscuits.
Cooking magazine Saji’s editorial team prepared two variations of bubur Arab.
Four huge pots of bubur were prepared while another four pots were prepared by Saloma’s culinary team with its own bubur lambuk recipe.
Activity continued in the evening with a special buka puasa was hosted for 50 children from two orphanages – Rumah Kanak-kanak Kesayanganku and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Peribadi Mulia.
Invited guests and the children enjoyed the buffet spread, while duit raya and goodies were given to each child.
