With the start of Ramadan, Maybank Islamic Bhd has contributed essential food items to almost 4,000 families.
The boxes of food were distributed to the families at 23 mosques throughout the country five days before the fasting month commenced.
Maybank Islamic chief executive officer Muzaffar Hisham said it would continue to implement its corporate responsibility (CR) community programmes to lessen the burden of underprivileged families, especially during Ramadan.
“The food supplies we gave comprised basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar and other essential food items,” he said during the distribution of the food boxes to Islamic Relief Malaysia director Zainal Abidin Zairulshahfuddin.
Muzaffar said Maybank Islamic not only humanises Islamic financial services across Asia, but also lends a hand in easing the financial burden of the locals, especially in areas where Maybank branches are located.
“For us, this programme is one of the best platforms to reach out to communities, whether they live in urban or rural areas,” he said.
Partnering Maybank Islamic’s Ramadan Relief are non-governmental organisations Islamic Relief Malaysia for Peninsular Malaysia, Harakah Islamiah for Sarawak and Sabah’s Pertubuhan Ikram.
