MALACCA: Fostering close bond with local community is a way forward for Hard Rock Cafe’s general manager Anderson Kandiah Selvanayakam to turn the Internationally famous chain into a “ family dining palace”.

With close to two decades experience in fine dining and going through the mill in the hospitality industry, Selvanayakam is tirelessly attempting to brand Malacca Hard Rock as gourmet palace for locals who are eager to experience a quality food and cosy ambience with their families and friends.

“The perception that Hard Rock menus are expensive was something that I am trying to scrap form the mind of the locals as the quality and quantity of each serving is equivalent of what price someone paying in any franchised eateries.

“If making a logical comparison, it’s vast more comfortable atmosphere with music and smiling staff who will serve with courtesy,” he said when interviewed by StarMetro, recently.

Selvanayakam said he was always telling friends that Hard Rock Malacca is a remarkable place where family bond and friendship could be strengthened over meals.

“Here, each customers are our friends and we don’t distinguish them the way they are attired or communicate, in our eyes, all of them are the same and part of the Hard Rock’s community,” he said.

Selvanayakam said he was passionate on being friends with the local community, understands them while promoting the diversity of culture and talents through food and platform to hone new talents.

“We are willing to offer those with talents in music and performance skills to showcase their talents on our stage and who knows that the opportunity to shoot as a stardom could start right in Hard Rock Malacca,” he said.

Selvanyakam’s diverse hospitality experience has made the Hard Rock as vibrant place, quiet and a must visit place for those touring historic city.

He is also now working closely with state Tourism Development Board to woo more of die-hard Hard Rock fans to make a trip down to Malacca as part of their tour to the chain throughout the globe.

The RM17mil Hard Rock Café fronting the scenic Malacca River is also strategically located near the iconic Jonker Walk and within the Unesco World Heritage core zone.

The cafe occupies some 840sq metre site and features individual areas for dining, lounge, bar and live entertainment including an underground car park.

Selvanayakam has also managed to incorporate classic Malacca and Peranakan architectural features, in-line with its location in the historic city.
