THE Kedah Sports Council in its efforts to promote and develop tennis, organised a three-day junior tennis circuit for young players from southern Thailand, Perlis, Penang and Kedah.

A total of 114 players, aged between eight and 18, participated in a round-robin format in the recent competition at the Sungai Petani Club, MRSM and UiTM Merbok.

The tournament was sponsored by Jin Bin Corporation, Tastiway Sdn Bhd and Wilson which also provided goodies and medals for the winners.

Sports council director Mahazi Che Ibrahim presented certificates, medals and goodies to the winners of the various events.

Present during the prize presentation were Haatyai Youth Tennis Club chairman Thansorn Noonark and Sungai Petani Club president Hang Kok Long.

Perlis had earlier organised a similar tournament at the UiTM in Arau from March 20 to March 22 in which 80 players competed.

Haatyai Tennis Youth Club in Thailand will organise the third leg of the circuit sometime in October this year.

Mahazi said the idea to organise the youth tennis circuit was to give young players the opportunity to compete against each other and improve their skills and compe-tency.
