RAISING sufficient money to pay rental for two halfway-homes as well as for utilities, workers salaries and veterinary expenses is a tough challenge for canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB).
Hoping to solve some of the financial burden, MDDB has launched a sponsorship programme beginning this year to raise funds individually for each dog under its care.
“We have some 50 dogs with us and most of them are disabled with special needs.
“Most of the time, it is a big struggle for us to make ends meet,’’ said MDDB sponsorship programme coordinator Melinda Joy Gomez.
She said only a few dogs found sponsors at the launch of the programme and many more were still in the lurch.
In view of this, MDDB will have the second leg of its sponsorship programme tomorrow at Jaya Shopping Centre, Jalan 14/17, Petaling Jaya from 11am to 6pm.
The sponsorship cost for one dog is RM60 a month and one person can sponsor as many dogs as they want to.
“This is the only way we can raise funds to care for the unfortunate dogs under our care,’’ said Gomez.
She said among the dogs under MDDB’s care currently were wheelchair-bound Justice, Valentino and Boo as well as Tiger, Sweetie and Ruby, who are disabled and cannot walk properly.
Ruby is also blind in one eye and another blind dog Strand is also under MDDB’s care.
“We also have some very senior dogs that need special care,’’ said Gomez.
MDDB merchandise such as T-Shirts, car stickers and wall scrolls will also be on sale.
