KUCHING: Sarawak’s MPs should form a new political alliance to speak up as one voice for the state’s rights and interests, says Sarawak PKR.
It called on Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to assert his leadership by inspiring the 25 Sarawak Barisan MPs to examine the main cause of the state’s dwindling political and economic sovereignty and equal progress for all Sarawakians.
“His mandate should include calling all the 25 MPs to be one Sarawakian voice by leaving Barisan for the betterment of Sarawak and Malaysia.
“Such a new Sarawak Alliance will ensure that our state rights and all development would be equitable and fulfil our true aspirations in Malaysia, and will surely be supported by PKR and all Sarawakians,” it said in a statement.
The party was responding to Adenan’s invitation to its chairman, Baru Bian, who is also Ba’Kelalan assemblyman, to join Barisan.
Adenan had extended the invitation when opening the Lun Bawang festival in Lawas on Saturday, saying that Baru was with the “wrong crowd” as only Barisan could deliver development.
The state PKR thanked Adenan for recognising Baru’s work as a leader and an elected representative for the people.
“We would also like to invite the Chief Minister to look beyond Sarawak’s short-term progress and work towards a better future for Sarawak in order to safeguard and advance Sarawak’s dignity as an equal partner in Malaysia, and for the betterment of all Malaysians,” it said.
It added that forming a new Sarawak Alliance was “the only path for us to take if we are true patriots and love both Sarawak and Malaysia”.
