MALAYSIA’S first Telugu Mega Concert, SPB Ugadi Geetanjali 2015, was held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
The concert featured popular Indian cinema playback singers Padmabhushan S.P. Balasubramanyam, S.P. Sailaja and S.P.B Charan.
The concert also featured a live orchestra, back-up vocals and 15 musicians.
The singers enthralled more than 3,000 people with some of their famous hits during the concert organised by the Malaysia Telugu Welfare and Cultural Association (PKKTM).
The concert kicked off with Balasubramanyam singing Sangkarabaranam, which the audience responded to with a standing ovation.
Among the guests were Special Envoy to India and South Asia on Infrastructure Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, National Land Finance Cooperative Society Limited (NLFCS) chief executive officer Datuk Sahadevan Naidu, Deputy Indian High Commissioner Rajiv Ahir and Gerakan vice-president Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay.
Organising chairman and PKKTM president Datuk Dr Prakash Rao said this was the first time Balasubramanyam wasperforming in a Telugu concert in Malaysia.
“We also organised the event to raise funds for the educational needs of underprivileged children and to help the needy regardless of race and religion,” he added.
Of the funds raised, RM35,000 was given to several welfare homes and underprivileged children.
Prakash said the concert, which was organised as part of Ugadi celebrations, had received good response from both the Tamil and Telugu communities.
