SIBU: There are plans to rename Kolej ITA to Kolej Universiti Toh Puan Norkiah in the near future.
The chief executive officer of the college, Datuk Seri Dr Benny Lee, said at its Charity Day 2015 yesterday that due to the small size of its present premises of a shophouse, it could not implement the plan just yet.
The event was officiated by acting resident, Dr Zufar Yadi Brendan Abdullah.
“It has been agreed for the renaming of the college but at the moment, our premises is too small to accommodate that,” Lee said.
Kolej ITA offers courses in nursing and psychology. The other higher institutions of learning include Methodist Pilley Institute, University College of Technology Sarawak and Kolej Laila Taib.
Separately, Lee said, despite his college not getting any financial support from the government or organisations, it was still able to achieve profit for six consecutive years.
“MPI is supported by a church group, while UCTS and KLT are by the state government,” he added.
“We are considered the most layman as we do not have any group to support us. We only have ordinary citizen support.”
On the charity event, Lee said it had managed to raise a total of RM10,000 from 18 main donors.
The money raised would be donated to three charitable organisations – Sibu Autistic Association, Sibu Cancer Care Society and Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Sarawak.
Dr Zufar praised the college, especially its students, for taking the initiative in organising the event.
He also called on successful people in the town to help the under priviledged in the society through donation.
