MIRI: Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng was assaulted outside his clinic yesterday morning resulting in injuries to his shoulder bones.

Dr Teo, who is the Miri branch chairman of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, was said to be walking to his clinic from the parking lot when he was apparently attacked by a lone assailant.

Witnesses said his assailant alighted from a car wearing a helmet and hit him with what was said to be a stick that resembled a baseball bat before escaping in the car.

Dr Teo was sent to the Miri General Hospital for treatment by his clinic staff. His condition is reported to be not serious.

The motive for the attack is still unknown.

The police have been alerted to the case even though no official police report has been lodged as yet.

Police investigators said they had interviewed witnesses at the scene of the incident and had given information about the vehicle used by the attacker.

As at press time, no arrest had been made.

Dr Teo won the Miri seat during the 2012 parliamentary election, defeating the BN candidate by about 1,900-vote majority.
