299 illegals immigrants detained in Sandakan


SANDAKAN: An integrated operation led by the National Security Council (MKN) here has netted 299 illegal immigrants.

Sabah MKN secretary Mohd Rodzi Md Saad said in a statement here today that the operation focused on nine kongsis at construction sites, four squatter settlements and a construction site.

He said altogether 523 people were screened and 299 of them were detained under the Immigration Act for entering the country illegally.

He added that all those detained, aged from a year to 70 years, were sent to the Temporary Detention Centre (PTS) in Sibuga here for processing and further action.

Mohd Rodzi said to date, 6,857 illegal immigrants were being held at four PTS in the state with 2,180 in Kota Kinabalu, Papar (1,595), Sibuga (1,389) and Tawau (1,693).

According to him, from January till today, 8,226 illegals were deported back to their home countries, comprising 6,092 Filipinos, 2,134 Indonesians and the rest other nationalities. — Bernama
