Johary Annuar rushed to his first council meeting after being sworn in as Deputy Mayor for the Petaling Jaya City Council, barely an hour into enjoying his new office.
Having served in the Selangor's Economic Planning Unit as Local Authorities Section deputy director, Johary took his oath as a councillor at 8.30am on Friday.
The ceremony took place in mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain’s office, with several councillors and council department directors witnessed the event.
“It’s a heavy responsibility, but I’ll do my best to prove that I am equal to the trust placed on me, “said Johary.
He hoped to use the experience gained from his previous postings to help improve service delivery for the city council.
For Mohd Azizi, Johary’s posting as his deputy was a welcome inclusion.
“When I was heading the Selayang council and during my stint with the State Treasury, I had interacted with Johary a lot. We are familiar with each other’s work,” said Mohd Azizi.
“It’s great having him work here with me, I’ll need his support,” the mayor said.
Johary, who hails from Tanjung Tualang, Perak, began his civil service career in Oct 2000 as a Program Coordinator with National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.
He had also worked at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment from 2007 to 2008 and as a senior human resource manager at Lembaga Tabung Haji for one year from 2009.
In Oct 2010, Johary was appointed as Under Secretary in the Management Services Division of the Selangor Secretariat, before moving to the state's Economic Planning Unit in 2012.
