THE RM4.14mil expansion project at SJK(T) Mak Mandin will begin next month with two new blocks to be added by the end of next year.
Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said one of the three-storey blocks would have 12 classrooms.
“The other two-storey block will have a canteen that can accommodate up to 200 pupils, a library and a health room.
“The two new blocks will be built with the latest design,” he said in his opening speech during the mock cheque presentation at the school on Monday.
Kamalanathan added that the project would be completed in about 12 to 18 months’ time.
The school’s headmaster N. Vijayakumar said there were currently 875 pupils and 58 teachers at the school.
Also present were MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Deputy Federal Territory Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan and Penang Education Department director Datuk Osman Hussain.
Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam said MIC had reached out to about 50% of the estimated 4,500 Indian voters in Permatang Pauh after 12 days of campaigning.
He expressed confidence that some 3,000 Indian voters or 66% of the total Indian voters, would choose Barisan’s candidate Suhaimi Sabudin.
“We hope to reach as many Indian voters as we can before polling day,” he said after a meet-the-people session here.
